Campaigns
BALPA represents well over 75% of all the fixed wing pilots and helicopter aircrew based in the UK - as well as many working overseas. We have a membership of over 10,000 professional flight crew, working in companies large and small.
Together we are united in the interests of British Airline Pilots.
BALPA works with the Civil Aviation Authority, the Department for Transport, the Department of Trade and Industry and many other bodies where the voice of ‘the pilot' is needed.
BALPA is regularly quoted in the national and regional media about our campaigns and representation work on behalf of members.
BALPA campaigns on a wide variety of issues which affect pilots and the flying public. From the aircraft work environment through to security and safety, BALPA works with the industry and government to ensure that its members and the public are looked after.

Past Campaigns
Fixed Rate Expense Allowance (FREA)
All individual taxpayers are allowed to make claims against expenses. But BALPA has successfully harnessed the collective strength of all its members to negotiate an industry-wide FREA that totals £950.
The FREA applies to all uniformed commercial pilots and co-pilots, and other uniformed flight deck crew.
Ryanair European Pilots Association (REPA)
The Chairman, President and representatives of BALPA and IALPA, the UK and Irish pilots' unions reached a ground breaking 'in principle' agreement in London to facilitate the organisation of all of the pilots of Ryanair.
Keep Britian Flying
To mark the 100th anniversary of powered flight the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) launched a campaign to secure the future of civil aviation in the United Kingdom.
Lift The Pension Cap
BALPA succeeded in overturning the Government’s proposals to limit pension pots to £1.4m and link the uplift only to prices. We put together a campaign team of professional staff and consultants, commissioned top-level actuarial advice, and developed a campaign pack.
